The University of Bristol Network team is looking to recruit a Senior Network Specialist.
The Network team is responsible for developing and maintaining the University’s network services throughout our campus, datacentres and other sites. We perform a mix of ‘Run’ work, and ‘Project’ activities to support the University’s vision and strategy.
The University is embarking on an ambitious new Digital Strategy to provide globally accessible technical services & digital solutions to empower world class learning and research. A key component of this is the Network Modernisation Programme, which will see the entire portfolio of University network services modernised to focus on the digital needs of our students, staff and research partners.
You will need to be highly motivated with demonstrable experience of enterprise scale IT operations and infrastructure, preferably within a management framework such as ITIL.
Operating at all levels across the infrastructure stack, from fibre cabling through to applications, you will produce network designs, review service designs, and support project and change activity to support business, academic and research purposes.
You will have a strong security focus and will be involved in defining, implementing, and maintaining a number of security-related policies and services. You will coordinate network-related security activities and assist in responding to security events.
You will champion IT Service Management best practices within the team and department, adhering to, and demonstrating the value of, mature policies and procedures.
You will be responsible for lifecycle management of network services including normal operational running, administering, troubleshooting and maintenance. As such you will hold the Technical Service Manager role for a number of key network and Data Centre services. You will keep track of industry and market trends and define technical best practices for your services.
You will have excellent technical troubleshooting skills and will work both independently and with support partners to lead root cause analysis of highly technical problems and manage the resolution of technical faults.
You must have the ability to work with colleagues dynamically across multiple teams and will have a proven track record of prioritising and balancing workload between Run tasks and a number of Project demands. You will have strong communicating and influencing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, with differing levels of technical understanding.
